London’s Most Peaceful Areas 2023

While London has all the buzz of a significant metropolis, its many parks and trees give it an expansive, breezy quality.  With different facets, this city offers something for everyone. For those that want urban life, but with a peaceful pace, there are beautiful pockets of London to explore. Proximity to some of the parks of the city influence the ambience and atmosphere of each neighbourhood. Also, the different villages and parishes within the city still have a sense of being their own province, rather than a homogenized part of the sprawling landscape. As London’s finest removals and storage company we have helped many people relocate to their urban oasis. Here are some of our favourite peaceful areas in London.

Anthony Ward Thomas’s Top Five Peaceful Areas in London

St. John’s Wood

In the city of Westminster, St John’s Wood lies between Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill to Edgware Rd.  Swiss Cottage is north and Lisson grove is to the south.  Originally built with low-density villa housing, many villas have been divided into apartment blocks, and so it is a place of chic, desirable apartments. Boutique shops and restaurants abound in its leafy streets. Home to Lords Cricket Ground and the Abbey Road studios, which the Beatles made famous, it is a classy and expensive residential area, well located on the gateway to North London.

Hampstead Village

Hampstead Heath is a place of rolling romance for North Londoners. An expanse of ancient wood and heath land, the Heath offers respite from the city, plus extraordinary views which allow you to simply “rise above it all”. Hampstead Village is a quaint area that inspires ardent devotion in its residents.  Boutique shops, café´s, restaurants and galleries shine in its nostalgic lanes and streets.  Viewing London from Parliament Hill affords you a greater perspective over the whole of the city. With freshwater swimming on the Heath at the Hampstead Ponds and the athletic track, there are many ways you can work on your wellness in this elevated province of London.

Little Venice

Unsurprisingly Little Venice is situated at the junction of the Grand Union Canal and the Regents Canal. Regency white town houses flank the triangular shaped water basin, just northwest of Paddington.  Warwick Avenue is the nearest Underground station.  With canal-side theatres and restaurants and pubs aplenty it is a hidden treasure. Take the Regent’s Canal waterbus around Regent’s Park to Camden Town and you can stay on the canal network in the city. With water life and nightlife, you have the best of both worlds in an unexpected central location.

Holland Park

Holland Park is an area of luxury properties and elegant streets of Victorian townhouses.  Proximity to Holland Park itself gives you access to the beautiful Kyoto Garden, as well as all the other beautiful horticultural features of this garden.  As the base of the borough’s ecology service, there are always a series of events in the part including wildlife clubs, holiday activities, and educational events for schools. The three-month summer Opera festival in the park gives you access to incredible culture, just around the corner.  With Kensington High St and Notting Hill Gate close to hand there is excellent shopping and dining all within walking distance.

Richmond is one of the quietest places to live in London.  Surrounded by Royal Parks and outstanding nature, Richmond has its own centre so you can feel at home within a town, within a city. Transport links can take you to Waterloo in 25 minutes, so you can be in the city but not of the city.  The Thames winds through Richmond offering summer evenings outside pubs and restaurants, rowing and sailing opportunities to all its residents.  Richmond Hill affords great vistas over the Thames and Richmond Park is great for walking, running, horse-riding and enjoying the wildlife. With a bustling town centre, you are not short of upmarket shops and restaurants, and you can always picnic on the green.

Locating properties in the peaceful areas of London

Use these top 5 favourite locations from Anthony Ward Thomas to search online and get an idea of what is available.  You may want to go directly to an estate agent, so they can find properties on your behalf.  Having an estate agent filter out unsuitable properties and find ones that are about to come on the market can be a great help when you are planning to relocate.  If they understand you are looking for a peaceful retreat within the city, they may be able to find other properties that are suitable for you. There are of course other places in London which are full of parks and quiet, so if you have definite criteria, they will be able to find them for you.

Anthony Ward Thomas- making relocating a peaceful process

At Anthony Ward Thomas, we often advise customers about removals and storage in London, and on choosing a location. We recommend spending time in the location you are going to buy in, maybe rent an Airbnb for a night close by and see how the area is at different times of day. Or visit the property at different times of day.  Light and sound are very important to being comfortable and inspired in a location, so we suggest taking the time to make several observations.  A busy daytime street could be very chilled at night and so it is worth doing a bit of investigation around that. As removals and storage experts in London, we know that having a strategy to approach a relocation is important.  We make moving seem easy, because we are a trained and professional team, used to handling valuable works of art and precious items.  When it comes to moving day, make sure you have us on board to ensure that the process is smooth and stress-free.
