A Round-Up of Events & Exhibitions in London, 2021

After a year-plus of setbacks, it finally looks like London will be easing itself back into hosting festivals and events in 2021. While many are still working on their line-ups, there are enough confirmations for us to curate some highlights. These are ideal for London’s residents or people who plan on visiting us, now that it’s possible to travel and attend events in person. You’ll no doubt find something, even if the roster is a bit thinner than in past years.

Anthony Ward Thomas is much more than a removal and storage provider. We’re residents of this great city and look forward to more live action soon. In addition to discussing our services, we also inform our followers what’s happening in the capital. Here are some brief highlights for shows that are going ahead in London in 2021.

What’s Open to the Public in 2021 –

This is an article that celebrates the progress with the pandemic response.  There’s also a cautious glance to see if anything upends it all. These are strange times, and most of are equally anxious of regressing back into lockdown. It’s going to be a challenge, but London is still doing its level best to host some unforgettable events.

For the sake of being consistent, we won’t be including online-only occasions. That’s not because we take issue with it – the opposite is true, and we applaud the brave decisions organisers have to make. Some are entirely too big to host the same numbers, and they’re taking the sensible option. But for the purpose of this blog, we’re going to highlight ones you can physically attend.

There is a small disclaimer – the event information is accurate at the date of publication. No one needs a reminder of how things can change in an instant. If a planned event is called off, we can only apologise in advance. But we’re all hoping nothing suffers this fate. Londoners have had a tough year, and it does feel like we’re moving in the right direction. And everyone at Anthony Ward Thomas wants you to enjoy the best London has to offer.

The Best Festivals and Events in London –

Royal Ascot –

Where – Ascot Racecourse, Ascot.

When – 15th – 19th June.

Preview – Okay, so we’re cheating a bit here as this isn’t ‘technically’ a London-based event. But it’s too noteworthy to leave out of this list, and it’s a short commute from the capital. Royal Ascot is synonymous with getting dressed to the nines for this event, which has varying levels of exclusivity and ticket prices. One thing’s for sure – this year’s racing is a welcome return.

Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships –

Where – Wimbledon, South West London.

When – 28th June – 11th July.

Preview – Unless you’ve just arrived from another planet, you’ll know a fair bit about Wimbledon. For a sport with its fair share of unmissable meetings, this one takes the top spot for the world’s best tennis stars. And it’s not uncommon for a lower-ranked wildcard to make a splash with a David and Goliath victory. This summer, elite tennis returns to London, and we can’t wait.

RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival 2021 –

Where – Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey.

When – 6th – 11th July.

Preview – A slight change in theme and direction now, but no less significant in stature. The Royal Horticultural Society’s annual flower extravaganza promises to display an array of stunning garden arrangements. You’ll get a chance to see some of the finest flower arrangements by the UK’s best-known celebrity gardeners.

Greenwich + Docklands International Festival 2021 –

Where – Royal Greenwich, Docklands and Tower Hamlets, London.

When – 27th August – 11th September.

Preview – The Greenwich + Docklands Festival is gearing up to unleash a unique art experience like none other. This open-air event is the largest art festival in London, with a plethora of creative mediums on display. There’s something for all art-lovers to enjoy with art installations, live theatrical, musical and dance performances.

Some Cultural Highlights to Enjoy –

Clerkenwell’s Classical Caff –

Where – Fidelio Orchestra Café, Clerkenwell Road, London.

When – 8am – 4pm café opening / 7pm – 11pm concert opening.

Preview – This is classical music, given the London contemporary touch. When you visit the Fidelio Orchestra Café, you’re in for a musical experience like none other. They’re trading in the high-society ostentatious airs and graces for an altogether more inclusive and inviting adventure into the classics.

Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser –

Where – Victoria & Albert Gallery, Cromwell Road, London.

When – Opens 22nd May – no closing date provided.

Preview – Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser is a comprehensive history of Alice in Wonderland, as this exhibition explores every adaptation and expression of the iconic story. Spanning over one hundred and fifty-seven years, this peerless novel has inspired generations of readers and audiences. Now you can immerse yourself in the narrative that surrounds Alice and her otherworldly tumble into the unknown.

Van Gogh Alive at Kensington Gardens –

Where – Kensington Gardens, London.

When – 4th June – 26th September.

Preview – Rarely has an artist gained such post-humous recognition and adoration as Vincent Van Gogh. Tragically underappreciated during his life, but his masterpieces continue to inspire and illuminate the imaginations millions of people. Van Gogh Alive brings his art to life in an audio-visual explosion that captures the vibrancy and depth of his stunning work.

Say Yes to Fine-Dining and a Show –

This is the news tens of thousands of us have been waiting for. The West End is back, and bookings are already opening for their cornerstone performances. You can finally enjoy one of London’s pinnacle spots for some of the best entertainment available. It’s time to book your tickets, eagerly waiting for that ‘curtain up’ moment.

Much like sightseeing and shopping, people travel to London solely to take in a show at the world-famous West End. But that’s only half of the fun, and most go out for a meal before or after the show. Luckily, London is also the city with cuisine from all over the globe for you to enjoy. Everything is available here, and most residents are yet to try every dish.

Our dining suggestions are Kiln in Soho for some superb Thai food and The Wolseley in Mayfair. We suggest feasting your eyes on Esquire’s article, where they detail the best posh nosh in the capital. The Infatuation’s blog has you sorted for everything foodie in the West End, so make sure you indulge.

Again, we’re not just suggesting this is for tourists – we think it’s time for Londoners to treat themselves. Get a babysitter in to take care of the kids and make a night of it. It’s been a tough year, and there’s nothing better than dinner and a show to start socialising again.

London’s High-End Shopping Paradise –

Everyone at Anthony Ward Thomas knows that London is a shopper’s paradise. We wrote a previous blog article on it, which you can click and read here. It details some of the best streets of retail commerce in the UK. You’ll have a good starting point by reading it to know where to begin your journey into retail heaven.

Some people travel to the capital to spend an entire weekend shopping as their primary focus. This is the ideal way to usher in the easing of travel restrictions. At the same time, Londoners have the privilege of this on their doorstep. And it’s straightforward to head into the capital to treat yourself without having to drive and find parking.

You’ll find Visit London’s article is invaluable reading material for those looking for luxury. It’s the who’s who of opulent retail, with background information and details on how to find each location. If you’re looking for something slightly outside of the norm, Timeout list some unusual shops in their blog that’s well worth reading.

Premium Removals and Storage Available –

As always, we’re only too happy when adding what services are available for anyone who’s relocating to London. Our range of removals packages is at a premium level, which is why people refer to us as London’s prestige removals company. We have a proven and long track record for the high-quality of our removals services.

Our version of a man and van service is called Small Moves, and it stands out from similar packages because of the professionalism and quality guarantee. Every man with a van job comes with a minimum of two of our expert removal’s team to do all the hard work. And we charge by the hour, so you don’t pay over the odds for day rates.

Anthony Ward Thomas has a fleet of removal’s vehicles available in various sizes, from a man with a van and up. This means there’s no relocation we can’t accommodate, regardless of how big or small the job is. And for anyone moving from a three-bed house and up, our Large Removals service can do everything in one journey.

The two storage packages we’ll focus here is our Household Storage and Self Storage packages. If you need long-term storage, then the best option is Household Storage. This utilises a container which we’ll transport out to your location. Then, we’ll pack, load and return the entire storage unit to our secure depot.

Container storage is the cheaper option, but there are some access limitations. For people who need regular access with no restrictions, self storage is probably more suitable for your needs. Whether you need storage for two weeks or six months, we have the right package to suit your requirements. Our facilities have top-notch security measures, including twenty-four-hour CCTV monitoring throughout our branch.
